Prospective Members & Interns
The membership of the American Society of Theatre Consultants is professional theatre consultants who have demonstrated a broad range of capability and experience necessary to qualify for membership. As professionals, ASTC members have individual and collective interest in providing unbiased, functionally sound and practical consulting and design services to owners, users, architects and engineers of the performance and assembly facilities. These interests are reflected in the objective and programs of the ASTC.
Society Membership is open only to individuals whose professional qualifications as a theatre consultant meet the following eligibility requirements:

Scope of Work: To be eligible, individuals must have general consulting capabilities, as exemplified by personal participation in the broad range of consulting work involved in the programming, planning and equipping of Performance facilities and/or AV studio facilities. However, generalist capability in all of the above facilities types is not required.

Professional Status: To be eligible, individuals must derive their principal income from work as consultants to owners, architects and/or engineers for Performance, Assembly or Studio facilities.

Professional Affiliations: Eligible individuals may be independent consultants or may be members of professional firms.

Experience: To be eligible, an individual must have acted as the general consultant responsible for not less than five substantial projects completed within the past five years. She or he must also have experience equivalent to at least five years of full time professional work as a general theatre consultant.

Commercial Affiliations: To be eligible, individuals must not be owners, employees or commission agents of any firm that manufactures, sells or installs equipment or that acts as a contractor for the construction of performance, assembly or studio facilities.

NOTE: “Amendment to the Bylaws – Article II – Members and Meetings of Members:

16. There shall also be a class of Members known as “Associate Members”.
Associate Members shall: -
(a) Be an individual who applies for membership in the Society and meets all qualifications of the Bylaws except for the five (5) years requirement and does not yet meet the requirement of having completed five (5) projects as theatre consultants.”

Other measures also apply to the amendment. This summary is to merely imply the intent.
When appropriate, the Society will elect, as honorary members, individuals who have made significant and major contributions to the theory and/or practice of theatre consulting work.
INTERNSHIP INFORMATION & APPLICATION
FORUM 2010
WASHINGTON D.C.
Oct. 1-2, 2010
The American Society of Theatre Consultants Annual Forum in Washington,
D.C. will host the ASTC Internship Program.
ASTC is the professional society of theatre consultants in North America. Our
membership consists of practicing theatre consultants who strive to provide the utmost of
professional service in the field of theatre consulting.In the spirit of our organization, we
recognize our responsibility to further our profession by providing a means for students
of theatre and architecture who may be interested in pursuing a career in the field of
theatre consulting to learn the scope of work involved.
Therefore, we will invite a select group of students to join our Forum 2010 meeting for a two day seminar in theatre consulting in Washington, D.C., October 1st and 2nd, 2010.
FORUM 2010: The ASTC Forum 2010 will encompass topics including “Members on Members”, documenting the influence of the Theatre Consultant on theatre design and construction. This will provide a unique opportunity for participants to gain insight into the consulting process through an examination of specific projects by contributing offices. Interns will participate in all Forum sessions and venue tours as well as have direct dialog with ASTC members regarding aspects of theatre consulting such as the design of the audience environment, the application of theatre technology and the integration of the consultant’s work into the architectural process.
ELIGIBILITY: The seminar will be limited to eight students. Interns should either be an undergraduate beginning their senior year or graduate student enrolled in a university Theatre or Architecture department. Applications must be endorsed by a faculty member.
COST: $150 - includes all tours, social events and associated meals. Transportation and lodging will be the responsibility of the intern. Two scholarships will be available based on need.

Specific housing information will be made available as soon as it has been finalized. Participants in the Internship Program are not required to stay at the designated hotel, but it is recommended for convenience. The estimated room rate for ASTC Forum ’10 is $150.00 to $175.00 per night +Tax – Single/Double.
