Welcome to the all new American Society of Theatre Consultants (ASTC) website!  We are very proud of our contemporary look and improved functions. The site is now compatible with mobile devices and we’ve added new images from our members’ portfolios.   These new graphics on our home page represent a broad range of our members’ work including television studios, theatre art complexes, historic theatre refurbishments, concert halls, community theatres, Las Vegas-style showrooms, cruise ship theatres, dance stages and outdoor amphitheaters.

ASTC is an association of the most talented and brightest theatre designers found anywhere.  ASTC has fostered the advancement of theatre design and the growth of our industry by sharing experience amongst our members for the past 30 years primarily through twice-yearly meetings.  The meetings are held in various locations across North America to collaborate with industry leaders and explore specific aspects of theatre design.  Past topics include Green Theatre Design, Automation and Control, Theatres for Dance, Opera Houses, Building Codes and Front of House Operations to name a few.

The Society also supports the industry through our working committees and with ASTC representatives participating in the development model building codes, the PLASA Standards program and through our liaisons with USITT, OSITAT, AIA, NFPA and IAVM.

We recently returned from our Annual Business Meeting in Milwaukee, WI where our members also participated in the USITT conference.  As is customary during most of our twice yearly meetings we spent a day touring theatres, this time in Madison, WI.  These tours allow our members to explore venues from top to bottom through the eyes of theatre designers, and to share real-time observations and experience in an effort to make the theatre industry better and safer.  Check back on this site for reports on our upcoming activities, meetings and theatre tours.

In the meantime, we roll out our “red carpet” to all. Please browse our new site and feel free to contact us at any time. We would love to hear from you. To make that connection as easy as possible, feel free to use the handy form on our Contact Page.

Mike McMackin, ASTC
