In March 2017, the American Society of Theatre Consultants and USITT will host the fourth annual collaborative renovation design project teaming university students with ASTC members and a university faculty advisor. Participating teams include students from the University of Oregon, Florida State University, and San Diego State University. In past years, this project has given students the opportunity to stretch their creative skills by developing plans to create or improve a performance space in an existing structure on their campus or in their community. This year’s projects will be presented in a special session at the 2017 USITT Annual Conference in St. Louis on March 8-11.
The ASTC member judges will select a winning entry based on both the submitted design and the live presentation. One team will be presented the Edgar L. Lustig Honor Award of $1,000 and at least one Merit Award will be presented and announced nationally by ASTC. By working together with a professional Theatre Consultant as a mentor, students will learn how venues are designed and renovated in the real world. Additionally, students will see performance spaces differently and be exposed to theatre consulting as a career path within the entertainment industry.
Join us on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 1:00 to 2:30 PM in Room 242 to see creativity soar. Past projects can be found on the ASTC website
